Some people report symptoms that they associate with electromagnetic exposure, including tiredness, disturbed sleep, headaches, difficulty concentrating, dizziness, tinnitus, unusual sensations and general discomfort. Individual sensitivity appears to vary considerably, and these symptoms may have many possible causes. The EMF Project explores whether specially arranged Double Coils can interact with electromagnetic fields associated with mobile phones, Wi-Fi equipment and mains electricity. The work remains experimental and is presented as an invitation to careful investigation rather than as a proven form of protection or treatment.
The EMF Device
A Double Coil is connected directly to an antenna designed for the type of signal being explored.
For Wi-Fi experiments, an antenna intended for the 2.4 GHz or relevant router frequency band can be used.
For mobile-phone experiments, an antenna suitable for the appropriate cellular frequency band is required.
The antenna should be placed close to the source of the signal. A Wi-Fi device may therefore be positioned beside the router, while a portable mobile-phone device may be carried close to the telephone.
The arrangement requires no separate electrical supply because the antenna receives energy from the surrounding electromagnetic signal.
We have found that the Double Coil produces a noticeable subjective effect during listening comparisons.
When the device is operating, some listeners describe music as clearer, more spacious or less obscured. The perceived effect takes several seconds to develop but appears to disappear immediately when the device is disconnected.
The machine has generally appeared most effective when the Double Coil is positioned horizontally.
These listening observations do not demonstrate that harmful radiation has been removed or that the device offers medical protection. Controlled and independently repeated experiments would be required before such conclusions could be reached.
We invite people to record observations involving sleep, energy levels, concentration and general wellbeing.
The Double Helix
Continued investigation led us to consider the physical shape of the coils.
Each Double Coil forms two closely related helices, producing an arrangement that bears a visual resemblance to the double-helix structure of DNA.
A coil may be wound in either a left-handed or a right-handed direction. This suggested the possibility of constructing two mirrored Double Coils: one left-handed and the other right-handed.
The mirrored coils are connected in series so that exactly the same current passes through both arrangements. They are positioned along a common axis, as shown in the photograph.
Music provides a simple subjective method of comparing different coil arrangements.
An acoustic guitar is particularly useful, although a well-recorded piece of music containing only a few instruments can also reveal subtle differences.
Because the apparent field takes approximately 30 seconds to develop, it is best to begin listening with the machine switched on and then turn it off. The perceived effect seems to disappear immediately when the circuit is broken.
The mirrored arrangement appears to produce a stronger listening effect than a single Double Coil.
Our interpretation is that each Double Coil produces two coherent opposing electromagnetic effects. The mirrored arrangement may create two related fields, one associated with the left-handed geometry and the other with the right-handed geometry.
This remains a proposed interpretation rather than an established physical explanation. At present, the effect can be explored subjectively, but we do not yet have an instrument capable of measuring the apparent field directly.
The Triple EMF Machine
The Triple EMF Machine was designed to explore three common forms of environmental electromagnetic exposure:
Signals associated with mobile phones.
Signals associated with Wi-Fi equipment.
Magnetic fields associated with mains electricity.
The machine contains three separate mirrored Double Coil assemblies.
The longer antenna is intended to receive mobile-phone signals.
The shorter antenna is intended to receive Wi-Fi signals.
The guitar pickup is used to receive magnetic fields produced by mains electricity.
Switches allow the three sections to be activated separately. This makes it easier to compare the perceived effects of each arrangement and to investigate different combinations.
The system is entirely experimental. Anyone reproducing it should document the antennas, coil dimensions, wiring arrangements, source distances and testing procedures as carefully as possible.
In Essence
The EMF Project explores Double Coil devices connected to antennas for Wi-Fi, mobile-phone and mains-frequency fields.
The devices are self-energising and do not require a separate power supply.
Mirrored left-handed and right-handed coils appear to strengthen the subjective listening effect.
